Formerly British Atlantic Airways, Virgin Atlantic took to the skies in 1984 with its maiden voyage from Gatwick to Newark. Today the airline has a fleet of 41 aircraft and a destination network of 35, spanning the UK, the Middle East, Africa, North America, Asia, the Caribbean and Australia.

In terms of passenger size, Virgin Atlantic is the UK’s eight largest airline, hosting around 5.3 million passengers per year. However Virgin Atlantic is only one of two UK airlines that fly long-haul, the other being British Airways.

From Australia, Virgin Atlantic flies nonstop from Sydney to London. When flying with Virgin Atlantic, you can choose from Economy, Premium Economy or Upper Class as well as opt to join the Flying Club program, where members can earn points with Virgin Atlantic and their affiliated partners. American Express Rewards Members and Virgin Australia Velocity members can also earn points with Virgin Atlantic.

Check-in

When flying with Virgin Atlantic, you can check-in online via the web or your mobile from 24 hours up until 2 hours prior to the flight’s departure. For airport check-in, Virgin Atlantic recommends you arrive at the airport four hours before the flight time and are at the departure lounge 75 minutes before the flight’s departure. Premium Economy and Upper Class passengers are also provided with dedicated check-in counters.

Comfort

When flying Premium Economy with Virgin Atlantic, you will experience a high level of service and comfort. Begin your journey with the airline’s dedicated check-in counter and priority boarding. Once inside the cabin, where seating has a 2-3-2 configuration, sit down and make yourself comfortable in your spacious leather seat with a pitch of 38 inches and a width of 21 inches.

Dining

Once you are seated onboard you will be treated to a pre-flight glass of champagne. But the premium service doesn’t end there. The cabin class also has its own exclusive menu which offers three gourmet meal options, all served on china dinnerware. A wide range of beverages are also available onboard including post-meal liqueurs.

Entertainment

In Premium Economy, you can choose from a range of blockbuster movies, TV shows, audio channels and video games, all available via your seatback screen.

Baggage

Virgin Atlantic allows Premium Economy passengers to bring 1 piece of 6kg hand luggage, 3 pieces of 25kg (each) checked baggage for flights to Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, the US and Delhi (from London) and 2 pieces of 25kg checked baggage for flights to all other destinations.

Upper Class

From the moment you check-in, Virgin Atlantic will treat you like a star, offering you chauffeur-driven transport from your express check-in area to the Upper Class Wing. Once on board, you will be shown to your luxury private suite where you can rest on your 33 inch wide full flat bed as well as use your laptop with the in-seat power supply and large table.

Dining

When dining in Upper Class, you can dine when you like with the airline’s gourmet ‘Freedom Menu.’ Dine at a time that suits you and your meal will be freshly prepared and served on China plates. The airline also offers an extensive range of beverages, which can be ordered from your attendant or at the Upper Class Onboard Bar.

In Upper Class, you can choose from a range of blockbuster movies, TV shows, audio channels and video games, all available via your private and adjustable 10.4 inch screen.

Baggage

Virgin Atlantic allows Upper Class passengers to bring 2 pieces of 16kg (total) hand luggage and 3 pieces of 32kg (each) checked baggage.
