Christchurch enjoys direct air service from several New Zealand cities including Auckland, Wellington and Queenstown. Direct services from international points include Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne and seasonal service from Perth. There are also direct links to Fiji, Singapore and Tokyo (seasonal). Close to 10 airlines fly into Christchurch Airport.
With its dramatic mountain scenery, windswept beaches and green pastures, driving through the picturesque South Island is one of the best ways to get acquainted with the area. Christchurch is located on the island’s main north /south highway and has roadway links to points west of the city.
The TranzAlpine train offers daily service to Christchurch from Greymouth, on the island’s west coast. Making a stop in the recreation area of Arthur’s Pass, the train offers a relaxing journey to Christchurch. The train departs Greymouth in the early afternoon, arriving Christchurch around 6pm.
