Shopping may not be one of Maldives biggest drawcards, but there are some must see areas if spending any time in Malé. Even if not looking to buy, the markets, shops and retail thoroughfares offer an intriguing cultural insight into life in this small nation.
The city’s main shopping area is located at Majeedhee Magu, a street running through the middle of the island. Lined with stores selling mostly imported fashions from Asia, the area is open for business until late at night. The Malé Fish Market and next door Vegetable Market located on the north side of the island near the Malé Port offer a great look at the country’s home grown fruit and nuts as well as the great selection of sea food from the area waters.
