March: Laguna Real Estate Noosa Festival of Surfing
For anyone who’s wondered what’s literally so swell about the Sunshine Coast, this festival has been celebrating the surf culture for the past 25 years. This is “8 days of pure stoke” including longboard, shortboard, finless, stand-up paddle boards, body surfing and even dog surfing.
March: Subaru Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival
Best known for its ocean swim leg, this Olympic-distance triathlon has been a firm fixture on the Australian triathlon calendar for more than 22 years. It includes the ASICS Mooloolaba Twilight 5km run; 1km Ocean Swim; Superkidz Triathlon; and the Special Tri and sport and lifestyle expo.
May: Australian Body Art Carnivale
This quirky and colourful festival showcases Eumundi at its eclectic best. Held over three days and two nights, this event celebrates the temporary art and specialist techniques involved in body painting. Permanent graffiti art installations dotted around the Sunshine Coast celebrate this festival.
July: Noosa Long Weekend
A long weekend in name, but not in reality with this festival stretching across 10 days and nights to celebrate all that’s amazing about Noosa and incorporating music, theatre, food, dance, visual arts and forums. This year marks the 15th year of what has become an international event.
July: Mary Valley Art Festival
Head into the tiny township of Imbil in the Mary Valley for some amazing art, workshops and demonstrations. This earthy community event has been running since 2000 and ends with the People’s Choice Awards and the Bush Haven Youth Awards being announced on the Sunday.
September / October: Caloundra Fringe Festival
Culture, comedy, cinema and cuisine are the hallmarks of this 11-day festival which boasts more than 80 different events from which to choose. Enjoy comedy under the stars; live art in the park; creative cooking with award-winning chefs; top gardening tips; and stories communicated through dance.
October: Noosa Triathlon Multi-Sport Festival
Regarded as Noosa’s most prominent annual festival, it is also Australia’s largest triathlon event and the largest Multi Sport festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. There’s something for everyone from the Endura Noosa Run Swim Run to the Noosa Tri Charity Golf.
October: Caloundra Music Festival
Considered one of the hottest tickets in town, the Caloundra Music Festival revolves around sun, surf and soul. Entering its 10th year, Kings Beach is the backdrop to a weekend of amazing entertainment attracting the likes of Angus and Julia Stone; Xavier Rudd; and the Hoodoo Gurus.
October: Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival
Caloundra is the catwalk for the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival which presents emerging and established local and national labels as well as international designers. Join the glitterati for a weekend of fashion, couture, ready-to-wear, swimwear and ethical design at one of Queensland’s most recognised fashion events.
December: Woodford Folk Festival
Set on 200ha of land behind the tiny township of Woodford on the Sunshine Coast, the village of “Woodfordia” is home to 35 performance venues with festival streets lined with restaurants, cafes, stalls, bars, street theatre and parades. It attracts more than 2000 performers in 1536 shows.
