Continuing the winter wonderland experience, this trip offers some unique winter activities, and some time to relax or explore the mountain towns and villages of Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff.
Day 1 Vancouver
Arrive in the vibrant city of Vancouver and take the day to explore at your own pace. Discover the city’s charm by strolling along the waterfront, visiting local shops, or enjoying the diverse culinary scene. In the afternoon, visit FlyOver Canada for a unique immersive experience and take a breathtaking virtual flight ride that takes you on an exhilarating journey across the country’s most stunning landscapes.
Day 2 Vancouver
Today you’ll embark on a fully narrated city tour that showcases Vancouver’s most iconic landmarks and attractions. Your day begins with a visit to Stanley Park, where you’ll explore the impressive totem pole display at Brockton Point, learning about the rich cultural heritage of the First Nations. You’ll then get a bird’s eye view of Vancouver from The Lookout viewing deck high atop Harbour Centre Tower and visit Capilano Suspension Bridge to cross this legendary attraction, 70 metres above the Capilano River. Additional highlights include viewing Granville Island Markets, historic Gastown, Chinatown, Vancouver Harbour, and the sandy beaches of English Bay.
Day 3 Vancouver and onboard VIA Rail
This morning is at your leisure in Vancouver before boarding VIA Rail’s Canadian Train for the overnight journey to the majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains. Feel like you’ve taken a trip back in time to the era of classic rail travel as you enjoy the comfort of your berth or cabin onboard. Wander through the train and enjoy the dome viewing carriage, and the delicious cuisine in the dining car. Day 4 Onboard VIA Rail and Jasper
By the time you awake this morning the train will be heading into the Canadian Rockies and Jasper. Enjoy breakfast while surrounded by dramatic scenery as the ‘Canadian’ begins its passage into the Rockies with views of snow-capped peaks, Pyramid Falls and the expansive glaciers of the Albreda Icefields. Pass by Mount Robson, which at 3,954 m is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies.
Upon arrival in Jasper, the afternoon is yours to discover this charming mountain community before night falls and you take a visit to the Jasper Planetarium. Start your day with an unforgettable ice walk through Maligne Canyon, where 10,000 years of erosion have sculpted a spectacular 50m gorge. Certified guides will lead groups of no more than 12 along the frozen canyon floor and its ice-clad limestone walls. Super soles and winter boots will keep you warm and secure while exploring this wonderland of rock and ice.
In the afternoon, discover Jasper’s culinary delights on this Downtown Foodie Tour. This guided 1.5-2km walk takes you to four local restaurants, where you’ll sample handpicked dishes paired with alcoholic beverages. Day 6 Jasper to Lake Louise
Travel south along the Icefields Parkway to Lake Louise. This spectacular drive through glacier country features massive snow-covered mountains, frozen waterfalls and broad-reaching valleys. Spend the evening in Lake Louise where, if conditions permit, you can hire ice skates to take a spin around the frozen lake.
Day 7 Lake Louise to Banff
Depart Lake Louise mid-morning for a short drive to Banff via the scenic Bow Valley. Banff National Park offers the quintessential winter wonderland experience. Whether your idea of being immersed in the Canadian Rockies is snowshoeing through snowy landscapes, soaking in hot springs, or cozying up by a fire with a decadent hot chocolate, Banff offers winter experiences for everyone. This morning adventure offers a complete orientation to Banff, showcasing some of the most scenic and historically significant landmarks within the World Heritage Site. You’ll visit iconic spots such as the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, Bow Falls, Surprise Corner Lookout, Hoodoos Viewpoint, and Lake Minnewanka. As you explore, your guide will share fascinating stories about Banff’s history and help you spot wildlife in their natural winter habitat. To top off the experience, enjoy a warming treat of hot chocolate and maple cookies at one of the scenic stops.
In the afternoon, you have the option to choose between two quintessential Canadian winter experiences, a Guided Snowshoe to Paint Pots or a Sleigh Ride. If you chose the snowshoeing, you’ll go along a gentle trail that crosses the frozen Vermilion River and winds through a snowy forest of pine trees, with your destination being the Paint Pots, which are mineral deposits once used by First Nations people for rock painting.
Alternatively, you can relax on a scenic sleigh ride through Banff’s snowy mountain meadows.
