Christchurch Botanic Gardens – Established in 1863, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens is a 21 hectare inner city paradise. The peaceful retreat features a rose garden with over 250 varieties of roses, a rock garden, a tropical Fern House and more. Public events are held throughout the year, including concerts and learning forums. Guided and self-guided tours are available from the Visitor’s Centre.
Punting on the Avon – Open year round, nature lovers can relax in the comfort of a river punt. This long, narrow boat is guided by a punter who uses a long pole to propel the punt down the river and past some of the most beautiful nature sites in the city.
TranzAlpine Rail Journey – Departing daily from Christchurch, the TranzAlpine railway winds its way through the picturesque landscape of New Zealand’s South Island. Stopping in the mountain retreat of Arthur’s Pass, the train continues through the Southern Alps and on to the pristine western shores. Whether it’s a return day-trip or one way journey, there’s no better way to see the inland sights of this stunning island.
