For the first time in 13 years, Aurora Expeditions is making it easier than ever for Australians and New Zealanders to explore Antarctica, with the announcement that Hobart, Tasmania and Dunedin, New Zealand will be included in the line up as departure cities for the 2025-2026 season.
Typically travellers make the long journey to Ushuaia to board their ship to reach Antarctica, but Aurora Expeditions' new itineraries eliminate the need for that long trip. Out of the 32 voyages planned for the upcoming season, four will depart directly from Hobart and Dunedin, offering a more convenient route to Antarctica.
All expeditions departing from Australia and New Zealand will sail on Aurora’s newest ship, aptly named after legendary Australian explorer, Sir Douglas Mawson. The ship's name pays homage to Aurora Expeditions' deep connection with Mawson, as the company draws its name from the Aurora, the ship Douglas Mawson journeyed to Antarctica on.
