She notes, for instance, “I had a customer come in who wanted a trip to Northern India. They gave me some “must see's” and then I got to make suggestions and put together a varied, cultural trip” Through a skilled combination of her own fascinating and varied experience, with the expectations of the client, Tanya can put together incredible journeys.

Of her favourite memories and destinations, Ethiopia came on top. She recalls “I was there 20 years ago before cell phones and tourism ... seeing a country and meeting it's people that had never had contact with westerners ... amazing scenery/culture/food / a true expedition experience/self-learning along the way is just unlike anything else – I can barely describe how amazing it feels.”

An active traveller, you’ll soon discover that Tanya ensures her trips encompass visiting unexpected destinations and doing activities that give her an incredible perspective on the culture and feel of a place. She commented that one of her glowing memories (and life achievements) was climbing up to visit Paro Taksang /Tigers Nests Monastery in Bhutan: “It's one of the places I had dreamed about visiting and seeing it in the flesh was mind-blowing and meeting the Bhutanese... they’re truly the friendliest people ever.”

To the unique and unusual / bucket list destinations / cultural experiences Tanya enjoys the challenge of learning about new destinations and assisting customers to see somewhere different. One of her key tips is that if you are wanting to walk and see the Great Wall in China, head away from the main touristy parts like Badaling and head to Mutianyu instead where you’ll find fewer crowds and it’s also much better for those Insta-worthy selfies. Or, for something more on the wild side, spend a night in Wadi Rum in Jordan to experience the night sky lighting up and climb the surreal rock formations to feel like you are stepping back in time.

The best part of Tanya’s job and lifestyle however is meeting new people. Becoming a part of her clients' lives is of the utmost importance to her; “from the initial meeting to send them off on their OE, to sending them on their honeymoon, and then away with their families ... plus then repeating this when they return, or even better when their kids return!”
