From Stranded to Safe: How Travel Associates Advisors Helped Clients During the Middle East Disruption

In March 2026, escalating conflict and airspace closures across the Middle East led to widespread flight cancellations through Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha - the busiest transit hubs connecting Australasia with the rest of the world. For thousands of travellers mid-journey or about to depart, plans needed to change - some within hours, or overnight. 

For Travel Associates clients, that meant one thing: a call, text, or email to their expert advisor. What followed was a month of our advisors doing what they do best - quickly working through alternatives, rebooking flights, finding creative new routes, and making sure their clients got where they needed to be, safely.

From a family rerouted through Istanbul to a trip reimagined as a cruise through Japan, these are some of the stories from that month - and a reminder of why having an experienced travel advisor in your corner makes all the difference.
 

Hannah Freeman's clients, a family returning home to New Zealand, needed to reroute when flights through the Gulf were suspended. The most common paths between Europe and Australasia all ran through the Middle East, so finding an alternative took local knowledge and persistence.
