Thai Airways commenced its maiden voyage in 1960, with the airline then flying from Bangkok to nine Asian destinations. Today the leading airline reaches worldwide, flying to 61 international destinations and 11 domestic destinations.

Thai Airways has also grown to a fleet of 96, making it Thailand’s largest airline. The airline is based at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, and also has a focus on Thailand’s popular travel destinations in Chiang Mai and Phuket. From Australia, Thai Airways operates direct flights from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney to Bangkok, which can then continue on to Chiang Mai and Phuket.

When flying with Thai Airways, you can choose from Economy, Royal Silk Business or Royal First Class as well as opt to join the Royal Orchid Plus rewards program, where members can earn points with the airline and their affiliated partners. Points accumulated with the program can be redeemed on flights, upgrades, lounge access and other benefits.

Comfort

When flying long haul with Thai Airways, Royal Silk Business cabins will be equipped with either lie-flat shell seats or electronic recline seats with in-seat power, telephones and a pitch of 60 to 62 inches. Seats will vary depending on the aircraft. Further comfort is provided with blankets, pillows and travel kits containing toiletries, socks, masks, toothbrush sets and cosmetics, all of which are available on flights over four hours.

Thai Airways has a total of eight lounges at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok and 15 lounges located internationally and domestically. The airline has four types of lounges that vary in facilities, service and access; Royal First, Royal Silk, Royal Orchid and Royal Orchid Spa. Naturally, Royal First passengers have access to the corresponding lounge, where they can enjoy slumber rooms and à la carte dining. The Royal Orchid Spa is only available to Royal Orchid Plus Gold and Star Alliance Gold card holders.
