The United Kingdom boasts as home for many but is also a hidden treasure trove of wondrous and exciting destinations that craft much of the world’s history. Our Travel Adviser, John Humphrey, recently returned to the UK and fell in love again with it’s many features!
My wife and I recently travelled back to the UK to visit friends and relatives. We had a lovely base at the Hilton Bournemouth in Dorset and even some great weather to boot in April! Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch run together in the region of Dorset on the southern coast. It has plenty to offer, including one of the best beaches in the UK at Sandbanks, Poole. It is also renowned for the second most expensive region in the world to buy real estate - so perhaps just a visit will suffice!
We had lovely morning walks onto the Pier and down the beach at Bournemouth, followed by a hearty breakfast at the Hilton. The Hilton is a new build hotel, so offers more modern conveniences like a swimming pool, day spa and decent sized rooms with modern showers. Older properties in the UK can vary wildly so if you are looking for a more modern style and well located in the centre of the city, then the Hilton is a great choice.
This region has so much to offer including the World Heritage Site that is the Jurassic Coast (stretching from Poole to Weymouth), The New Forest, the old city of Christchurch and the Avon River. Bournemouth is fabulous for shopping and beaches, and Poole Harbour has access to the Quick Cat services to France and the Isle of Wight to name a few!
We enjoyed the many country pubs in the area; for something quite quintessential head to a tiny village in the New Forest called ‘Bank’ there you will find a beautiful old pub called The Oak Inn. It’s a very popular spot and offers wonderful walks, hikes and biking to do in the area. However if you prefer, you can just enjoy the pub and a few warm pints. You can even zip line off the pier at Bournemouth for something a bit more challenging! It is well worth a few nights down in this region boasting beautiful scenery, many historic and heritage sites and of course old country pubs to soak in all in afterwards!
