Equally passionate about cruises, tours, and exploring the world, Sharlotte McKenzie has spent 11 years helping travellers create one-of-a-kind journeys. Based at Streeter & Turner Travel Associates in Christchurch, she draws on her own adventures to inspire and craft personalised itineraries. Her travels have taken her to 37 countries worldwide, from the pristine beaches of Mauritius and Fiji to the vibrant cities of Singapore and Dubai, and the historic streets of Italy and France.
One of Sharlotte’s most cherished memories was a trip to Africa with her mum. “It was a huge leap outside our comfort zones. We went on a safari in South Africa, staying in a remote campsite surrounded by the wild. Mornings were spent watching animals in their natural habitat, and evenings under the stars, listening to the sounds of the savannah. It was raw, real, and completely humbling, and we learned so much about the culture, wildlife, and beauty of the land.”
Sharlotte is an expert in destinations including Mauritius, South Africa, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Fiji. Her travel bucket list continues to grow, with Antarctica calling her most urgently. “The vast icy landscapes, towering glaciers, and unique wildlife are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. What is the most amazing experience you have created for a client?
A family reunion in Europe with 20 people was definitely an adventure! It was complicated, unique, and so much fun to organise. Co-ordinating everyone from different corners of the globe to meet in Croatia had us laughing non-stop. We found exciting itineraries and worked with amazing suppliers to make sure the reunion was filled with unforgettable moments.
How do you go above and beyond for your clients?
I make it a point to truly understand my clients, what excites them, how they prefer to travel, their budget, and even the small details like their favourite foods or activities. This helps me recommend destinations and experiences that are perfectly tailored to them.
What are your favourite destinations to visit and why?
I love anything off the beaten track, like getting lost in the heart of Japan, discovering a random inn, and laughing with locals who didn’t speak a word of English. Or wandering through hidden boutiques in Europe – it’s those unexpected moments that make travel so special.
Why do you love travel? Tell us what it means to you?
Travel is a way to break free from routine, to learn, and to grow. It’s the little moments – a breathtaking sunset, an unexpected conversation, or discovering a hidden gem – that make life richer. Travel expands your horizons and reminds you there’s always more to see. It's not just about the destination, but the journey itself.
